How long does it take to get an Oregon medical license?

Getting a license is not as hard as you could imagine. The main complication is related to the educational background and the experience you get before applying for the license.

To be able to apply for a medical license, you need to meet the requirements.

You have to pass one of these exams that are accepted by the Oregon Medical Board:

  • MCCQE
  • NBOME/COMLEX (Levels 1, 2 and 3)
  • USMLE (Steps 1, 2, and 3)
  • NBME (Parts 1, 2, and 3)
  • FLEX (Days 1, 2, and 3 or Components 1 and 2)

Remember you have a maximum of three attempts to pass these exams. If you don’t pass, you will need to complete a year of post-graduate program training and then sit for the exam once more.

The medical school that you graduate from must be approved by the AOA, LCME, APMA, or the Accreditation Council of Canada. You have to earn your MD, DO, or MBBS degree. If you have graduated from an international medical school, then you must have attended a minimum of four terms of instruction.

The duration of each term is eight months. You need to complete all your courses by physical on-site attendance. The international medical school must be chartered in the country where it is located.

What if I have graduated from an international medical school?

If you have graduated from an international medical school and you have attended the classes as required, and are certified by a specialty ABMS-recognized board or AOA-BOS-recognized board, then the requirement for having completed four full terms can be canceled.

The medical school you have graduated from must have accreditation from an organization acceptable to the Board.

You have to complete a year of post-graduate training which must be in a single program to be valid. This program can’t be spread across several.
