How do I get my insurance license in Oregon?

Obtain pre-license education

The state of Oregon requires future insurance agents to complete pre-license education to be eligible to apply for an insurance license. Thus, you should correspond with those standards and complete the following hours of pre-license courses:

  • Life (20 hours)
  • Health (20 hours)
  • Property (20 hours)
  • Casualty (20 hours)
  • Personal Lines (20 hours)

You can complete these hours by attending a pre-license course. The courses are available to take in classroom (the traditional way) or online. Nowadays, most applicants prefer online courses as they fit into their busy schedules and are more convenient to take. Nevertheless, the choice of the studying method is up to you.

When you finish the courses, the course provider will give you the Certificate of completion. The latter is necessary for license application.

Pass the state insurance exam

After obtaining pre-license education, it is time to demonstrate what you have learnt the whole time. To put it differently, you should take and pass the Oregon Insurance exam.

Note that you must take one exam for each desired line of authority.

For the exam, you will have 160 minutes to answer all of the questions. Make sure you get at least 70% of the questions correct to pass the licensing exam.

The examination will take place in a controlled environment as there will be a proctor watching over you. Please bring a primary ID with you on the examination day so that they can identify you.
